To apply for a VET FEE-HELP loan, you must first read the VET FEE-HELP information booklet (this booklet is reviewed and updated each year) before you can submit a Request for VET FEE-HELP loan form.
This form is only available from your VET FEE-HELP provider (and you will need to check with them whether you have to submit a paper or electronic version of the form).

To get a VET FEE-HELP loan, you will need to include your tax file number (TFN) on the form, as VET FEE-HELP loans are recorded against your TFN. If you have applied for a TFN but don't yet have it, you can give your VET FEE-HELP provider a Certificate of application for a TFN. This certificate is available from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) to prove you have applied for a TFN. Contact the ATO on 13 28 61 for TFN information.

From 1 January 2016, there are also greater protections in place for you, as a VET FEE-HELP student.

As part of the new student entry requirements to get a VET FEE-HELP loan, you will need to give your VET FEE-HELP provider a copy of your Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 Certificate). If you don't have an Australian year 12 Certificate, you must instead sit an approved Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test and be assessed (by your VET FEE-HELP provider) as competent in both reading and numeracy at the Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework.

You can only apply for a VET FEE HELP loan two business days after you have enrolled in your studies. If you enrol in a course and it is less than two business days from the day of your enrolment to the unit census date, you are not eligible for a VET FEE-HELP loan for that unit.

If you are under 18 years of age you will need your parent or guardian to co-sign the form. However, this is not necessary if you are receiving, or have received, youth allowance and classified as independent under the Social Security Act 1991 (Part 2.11). You will be required to obtain and give to your VET FEE-HELP provider evidence from Centrelink as to your independence.

You must submit the signed and completed form to your VET FEE-HELP provider by the census date (or some also use an earlier administrative date). If you don't submit your form on or before the census date, you will not be eligible for a VET FEE-HELP loan.

For important information on the census and administrative dates, read the Relevant deadlines page.

You should also read the privacy notice for information about how your personal information is collected and used to verify your eligibility for a VET FEE-HELP loan.
