Expansion of the HECS-HELP Benefit for early childhood education

13 July 2012

To further encourage and support early childhood teachers working in areas of high need the Government has expanded the scope of the HECS-HELP Benefit for early childhood education teachers.

Changes include:

  • expanding the eligible postcodes to include all rural and remote areas, including regional cities. Areas with high indigenous population and areas of socio-economic disadvantage will continue to be targeted.
  • removing the requirement to spend 50 per cent of the week ‘teaching’.

The expanded benefit is available from 1 July 2012 for the 2011-12 income year and later years.
