Indigenous Staff Scholarships
Indigenous Staff Scholarships (ISS) have been developed to provide Indigenous people who work in the higher education sector with opportunities for professional development.
Successful applicants can take 12 months leave from their job to study full time in their chosen field. They receive up to $23,600 as a living allowance and up to $11,800 for tuition fees and student contribution amounts for the year. Amounts are indexed annually.
Priority is given to Indigenous staff who:
- are undertaking postgraduate awards; and
- have not previously received an ISS.
Up to five national scholarships are awarded each year.
To be eligible for an ISS the applicant must be an Indigenous person, employed by a higher education provider and enrolled in a full-time course of study leading to a higher education award as per Chapter 3 of the Commonwealth Scholarship Guidelines (CGS) in the Higher Education Support Act (HESA) 2003).
