The Universities Accord (Student Support and Other Measures) Bill 2024 (the Bill) has now passed both Houses of Parliament.

The Bill amends the Higher Education Support Act 2003  and other relevant legislation to:

  • change the way indexation is calculated to cap the rate to the lower of either the Consumer Price Index (CPI) or the Wage Price Index (WPI)
  • establish a Commonwealth Prac Payment from 1 July 2025 for student teachers, nurses, midwives, and social workers
  • deliver FEE-FREE Uni Ready courses from 1 January 2025 to provide more students with an enabling pathway into higher education
  • introduce a requirement that a minimum of 40% of the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) revenue received by higher education providers must be directed to student-led organisations
  • reflect the merger of the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia
